SUMMER CAMP

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

We offer two 2-week summer day camps for 5th-7th grade students and one 3-week summer camp for 7th-9th graders.

The Aviation Camp and Boating Camp are 2-weeks. The Renewable Energy Sources Using Artificial Intelligence Camp is 3-weeks. All of the camps require the students to use scientific inquiry, critical thinking skills, and deductive reasoning to analyze data and
solve problems. Our Aviation Camp is approved by the NC Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Career Educational Program (ACE) camp. During all of our summer camps, we conduct a comprehensive and interactive segment in which the students engage in discussions about a variety of life-skill topics including diversity, teamwork, peer pressure, making smart decisions, and self-confidence.

The curriculum and activities incorporated in our summer camps are intended to complement the science and mathematics principles that are being been taught in the classroom. Daily swimming lessons, free breakfast and lunch are included in all of the summer camp programs unless County health protocols dictate otherwise. Pursuant to a partnership with the Little
Washington Sailing School, a one-week sailing school will be offered to students that attend the summer camps. The following summer camps will be offered:

The Aviation Camp:

The history of aviation aerodynamics relative to unpowered and powered flight hands-on class projects to test aerodynamic efficiency in a wind tunnel field trips to military bases to see some of the most advanced aircraft in the world.

EDUCATIONAL TRAINING DEVICES IN THE AVIATION PROGRAM

Redbird Jay Velocity Desktop Flight Training Device The desktop Redbird Jay Velocity Flight Training Device (FTD) is the latest
generation of an introductory flight training device. This a cost-effective and very useful entry-level teaching tool. It can accurately replicate the airplane movement relative to control inputs made by the student..

Redbird FMX Full Motion Simulator (FMX)

The FMX is “state-of-the-art” FAA-approved device that can be used to conduct all phases of flight training. It accurately replicates the 3 axis motions of flight; yaw, pitch, and roll. Small electric motors, computer hardware/software and eight screens combine to create 180 degrees of realistic outside visual references including airports and terrain. This simulator is an example of a sophisticated robotic device. It exposes students to the aerodynamics of flight, thinking in a 3-D environment, and the function
of the flight controls. The FMX has proven to be extremely successful and a phenomenal teaching tool.
